A description of OEM software and Roxio's support obligations for it.
Resolution
OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer), when used to describe software, is a version of the software bundled with other hardware or software rather than the same software package sold on its own as a retail package. The packaging, features, and legal rights that come with the OEM versions of a software package generally differ from what is provided with the retail versions. The basic functionality of the software is often the same, but it is quite common for the OEM version to be a version with reduced functionality.
Items Roxio software is bundled with: - Video or audio software
- DVD or CD burners
- Computers
- Magazines
OEM Feature Availability
Many times, the bundled Roxio software is customized to the specifications of the manufacturer. This means that some of the features that you may find in the retail version of Roxio software may not be available in the version that came bundled in a DVD burner (or other OEM item). To get all the features, an upgrade can be obtained for a heavily discounted price (up to 50% off).
OEM Technical Support
Support, like the product features, is dependent on the manufacturer that bundled the Roxio software. If you need technical support for your software, it's best to contact the manufacturer for customer support to see if they support the software before contacting Roxio. Roxio charges on a per minute basis for phone support calls. However, Roxio does offer a wide range of free online tools that are open 24/7, updated regularly, at http://www.roxio.com/enu/support/default.html.
