Clean Install Instructions for Simple Backup

Issue

Clean install instruction are important where files and registry entries have become corrupted.

They are also handy when a complete uninstall/reinstall of the software is necessary to trouble shoot potential conflicts with other software.


Resolution

Note: These instructions apply specifically to Windows XP.

To perform a clean reinstallation of Simple Backup.

  1. Uninstall the current copy of Simple Backup using the "Add/Remove Programs," control panel.
  2. Delete the "Simple Backup," folder from your hard drive. (By default this is located inside: C:\Program Files\Sonic\)
  3. Edit the Registry to remove entries relating specifically to Simple Backup. (As a precaution, please export any registry entries before deleting them.)
    1. To start the Registry Editor, click on "Start," click on to "Run," type "regedit," and click "OK."
    2. Open the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" folder. (If this folder does not exist, proceed to step f.)
    3. Open the "Software" folder.
    4. Open the "Sonic" folder.
    5. Right-click on the "Simple Backup" folder and select delete.
    6. Open the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" folder.
    7. Open the "Software" folder.
    8. Open the "Sonic" folder.
    9. Right-click on the "Simple Backup" folder and select delete.
    10. Close the Registry Editor.
  4. Restart your computer.
  5. Reinstall Simple Backup.
