Print this Article Issue When starting up the software, the following error appears:
The ordinal 251/258 could not be located in the dynamic link library SHW32.DLL
Cause This error is due to the Registry path for Sonic Simple Backup pointing to a different install path than the shortcuts.
Resolution The solution is to copy all of the ".DLL" files located in the default directory C:\Program Files\Sonic\Simple Backup\System\ up one level, to the folder C:\Program Files\Sonic\Simple Backup\.
(do not delete or move the files, copy them into the new location)
If you cannot find these files when going to the main install directory, please check the following:
- Open the Windows Explorer utility found under the Accessories tab on the Programs menu.
- Open the Simple Backup System folder (c:\Program Files\Sonic\Simple Backup\System\).
- Click on the "Tools" menu at the top of the window and choose "Folder Options".
- Click on the "View" tab and check "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types".
- Left click the "OK" button to close the window.
You should see several files with a .dll file name extension.
- Hold down the CTRL button on your keyboard and left click each .dll file.
- When all the .dll files are highlighted, open the "Edit" menu at the top of the window and choose "Copy".
- Open the Simple Backup directory (c:\Program Files\Sonic\Simple Backup\) folder and open the "Edit" menu.
- Choose to "Paste" from the edit menu to copy all the .dll files to the Simple Backup directory.
