How to rip audio CDs to your hard drive using Easy media Creator 6 or 7.

Resolution

  1. Use Creator Classic to rip audio CDs (Preferred method)
    • Put the audio CD you would like to rip to your hard disk inside your CD/DVD drive.
    • Launch Creator Classic by clicking on the "Start" button, clicking on "Programs" or "All Programs", clicking on the "Roxio" program group, and clicking on "Creator Classic". If you would prefer, you can also launch Creator Classic from the Home application by clicking on "Creator Classic" in the Applications area of Home
    • Click on the pulldown menu under "Select Source" and navigate until you find a view where you can see your CD/DVD drives such as "Desktop" with "My Computer" beneath it
    • Click on the drive which has your audio CD in it so the drive is highlighted. The drive will be listed as "Audio CD (X:)" where X: is the drive letter of the drive you have your audio CD in
    • If you are ripping music from a commercial audio CD and wish to download the track names from the Internet, click on the button with a CD and a little "i" on it which is immediately to the left of the "Copy Tracks from Audio CD" button
    • You should see the tracks on the CD listed at the top of the Creator Classic window. To the left of every track is a small white box. You must put checkmarks in the box beside the tracks you wish to copy to your hard disk. If you do not wish to copy a track, you need to make sure there is no checkmark in that box. To remove a checkmark, simply click on the box.
    • Now click on the "Copy Tracks from Audio CD" button
    • A dialogue box will appear where you can select several options
    • To change the directory the audio files will be saved to, click on the "Browse" button, select the folder of your choice, and click "OK"
    • In the pulldown menu called "File Type", choose the format you wish to rip the CD in to. For most people, the correct choice is "Coding Technologies MP3 encoder - mp3". If you would prefer however, you can choose from an alternate MP3 encoder, as well as .OGG, .WAV, and .WMA formats
    • Choose the bit rate using the slider if the file format you are recording to allows it. If you slide the bit rate slider to the left, your file will be smaller but of lesser sound quality. If you slide the bit rate slider to the right, your files will be larger but will be of higher sound quality.
    • If you wish to change the format of the file names for the ripped audio files, click on the pulldown menu called "File Naming Structure" and make your choice
    • Click "Start" to begin ripping the selected tracks to your hard disk. Once complete, the files will be located in the folder you selected.

  2. Use Roxio Capture to rip audio CDs
    • Put the audio CD you would like to rip to your hard disk inside your CD/DVD drive.
    • Launch Roxio Capture by clicking on the "Start" button, clicking on "Programs" or "All Programs", clicking on the "Roxio" program group, and clicking on "Capture". If you would prefer, you can also launch capture from the Home application by clicking on "Capture" in the Tools area of Home.
    • When capture has been launched, you should see "Audio CD (X:)" in the "Detected Devices" window, where X: is the drive letter of the drive you have your audio CD in.
    • Click on the "Audio CD (X:)" icon.
    • Click on "Browse folders..." and choose a folder where you would like the captured audio to be saved to. Then click "OK"
    • If you would like your audio saved in a subfolder, put a check in "Create a subfolder and subcollection for copied tracks" and then specify the name of your subfolder in that area.
    • In the area marked "2. Select tracks from the list..." you need to highlight the songs you wish to copy to your hard disk. If you would like to select multiple tracks, hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard and click once on every track you wish to copy, until all the tracks you wish to copy are highlighted.
    • If you are ripping music from a commercial audio CD and wish to download the track names, click on "Get disc information"
    • When you're ready to begin the process, click on the "Copy Tracks" button
    • When the process has been completed you will be returned to the Capture screen where you can choose to rip more tracks, or click "Next" to start working with these files inside one of the Easy Media Creator applications.
    • Once you've selected which Easy Media Creator application to launch, or you've selected "Finished Capturing", click on the "Done" button

Note: Roxio Capture can only rip files to hard disk in .WAV format. If you would like files ripped to .MP3 or .OGG you must use the Creator Classic method of ripping audio files.
